Fly Fishing for the Mind: 2010
Rainbow River Lodge, Alaska
Cost: We are pleased to be able to offer a special discounted
price so low we cannot publish it on our website. This is an
amazing value. Please call us for details.
Rainbow River Lodge
is located on private land in the heart of Alaska's phenomenal Bristol
Bay and Lake Illiamna "Trophy Alaska Rainbow Trout" watershed,
conveniently adjacent to the Katmai Wilderness. The lodge offers
magnificent views of the Alaska wilderness and the "Home River" is the
beautiful Copper River, one of Alaska's original "fly fishing only"
designated streams. Nestled among pines overlooking a small picturesque
lake, the lodge and guests have easy
access to countless rivers teeming with wild rainbows trout and salmon.

Rainbow River Lodge has been rated as one of the "ten best fly fishing
lodges in Alaska" and the Copper River, our "Home River" has been rated
by Trout Unlimited as one of the "top 100 best Trout streams in the
world."
Please note: This is a "dry" village area. However, our seminars
focus on the experience and growth and most participants do not drink
while at the seminar. Contact the lodge for assistance if you wish to
bring your own.
WHY Rainbow River Lodge?
It is a true
wilderness lodge, accessile only by floatplane. The only
neighbors are brown bear, moose, caribou and fish too numerous to
fathom.
- Angling is as close as your cabin door, but fly outs are
available at no extra cost.
- The level of service is excellent. Staff to Guest
ration is 1:1.
- Meals are prepared by an executive chef with three
assistants.
- Guides have an average of 8 years experience on the lodge
waters.
CLOTHING:
The weather in Alaska is constantly changing. One afternoon it may be
75 degrees and sunny with a change a few hours later with rain, wind
and temperatures in the low 50's. It is not uncommon to have morning
temperatures in the upper 30's & lower 40's with the afternoon
warming up to 60 degrees. With this being the case, the “layering
system “ is the best strategy to staying comfortable. This way we can
adapt to whatever Mother Nature dishes out.
Rainbow River Lodge
recommends starting off with polypropylene next to your skin. This is
often a pair of thermal underwear. Try and stick to synthetic or
synthetic wool blend as this will wick moisture away from your body.
Your second layer or alternative layer could be a medium to heavy
weight wool or polypropylene shirt, sweater or pull-over. Pull over
fleece garments are also a great choice.
Your third layer, if even needed, can be a fleece or wool jacket.
Your final layer will be the most important. This is the rain jacket
that you choose. We recommend high quality Gore-Tex type products.
These products work the best and will protect you from both from wind
and rain. Waxed cotton jackets such as Filson are also a fine choice.
EQUIPMENT:
All equipment is provided by the lodge except for your waders. We
can help you find a reasonable set of waders and wading shoes so that
you will be comfortable on the water. Waders serve as perfect
rain pants. Wading shoes are usually purchased separately. You
can find breathable, comfortable waders and shows for about $200.00
new. Sometimes with resourcefulness you can borrow them from
friends. Contact George or Joe for help and guidance on this.
